HPV 67 positive is not the same result as HPV 66 positive. HPV 67 belongs to IARC Group 2B. Interpretation requires the genotyping panel and accompanying cervical screening findings, rather than the type number alone.
How is HPV 67 different from HPV 66?
They are separate genotypes. Some common screening panels include HPV 66 but may not test for HPV 67. An ‘other high-risk HPV negative’ label does not answer whether HPV 67 was present unless the assay actually covered it. Similar type numbers do not justify transferring a management recommendation from one type to the other. Check both the positive line and the method section.
What does the risk classification mean?
IARC Group 2B denotes possible carcinogenicity. It is not a disease stage, a current cancer diagnosis or a percentage prediction for an individual. The limited evidence specific to HPV 67 should not be treated as equivalent to the evidence for HPV 16. If several genotypes are detected, decisions should consider the other types and cytology as well.
Why does the Pap result matter?
HPV testing reports viral detection, while cytology describes cells. A normal Pap result and HPV 67 positivity can coexist. Abnormal cells, prior CIN or a previous cervical treatment may change follow-up. Colposcopy and biopsy decisions depend on this combined information. HPV 67 alone is not a sufficient reason for cervical ablation or tissue removal.
How should reports from different laboratories be compared?
Sampling site, assay coverage and testing dates may differ. One assay may report individual genotypes while another reports a group. A positive grouped channel does not establish that every type named in it is present. Checking whether HPV 67 was examined in the earlier sample helps avoid calling a finding new acquisition or persistence without sufficient evidence. The laboratory can clarify unclear panel coverage.
What about vaccination and timing of review?
HPV 67 is not directly included among the nine vaccine types. Vaccination should not be presented as treatment for this infection; prevention of other types is a separate consideration. Keep the full reports and any previous procedure records. Agree on timing using your history and all accompanying findings, rather than the number 67 alone. Symptoms or a suspicious lesion warrant assessment before a routine screening date.
