What is usually expected after LEEP?

Mild cramping, spotting and watery or dark discharge can occur during healing. Haemostatic products used on the cervix can also change the colour or texture of discharge.

When should I seek medical review?

Contact your treating clinician if bleeding is heavy, pain is severe or increasing, you develop fever, feel unwell, or notice a symptom that is clearly outside the recovery instructions you were given. Emergency care may be needed for very heavy bleeding, fainting or severe acute symptoms.

Sex, tampons, baths and exercise

The cervix needs time to heal. The exact restriction period depends on the procedure and your clinician’s instructions. Avoid restarting intercourse, tampons, intense exercise or swimming earlier than advised simply because bleeding has stopped.

Why the pathology result matters

The pathology report confirms lesion grade and may comment on margins. A normal-feeling recovery does not replace pathology review.

When is HPV checked after LEEP?

Post-treatment surveillance is HPV-based in current risk-based approaches, but timing depends on pathology and history. Very early repeat testing just to see whether HPV has disappeared is usually not useful.
