A structured gynecological assessment for international patients, planned according to age, symptoms, medical history, previous screening results and individual risk factors.

You can start with a gynecological consultation. You do not need to choose a test package in advance. Bring your concerns and any previous reports; the assessment and any tests will be planned around your medical history, symptoms and preferences.
This is not a fixed test package. Some patients may need fewer tests; others may need additional evaluation. If you have an ongoing symptom, mention it when arranging your visit.

Why an individualized screening plan?
Women’s health screening should not be identical for every patient. Age, symptoms, pregnancy plans, family history, previous HPV or Pap smear results, vaccination history and other medical factors can change which tests are appropriate.
The aim is to avoid unnecessary testing while making sure clinically relevant screening and follow-up are not missed.

If you already have an HPV result or an abnormal Pap smear, previous reports can be reviewed and the next step discussed. Depending on the result, follow-up testing or colposcopy may be recommended.

How to prepare for a women’s health check-up
Start with your main concern, not a list of tests. Note any symptoms, the date of your last period, pregnancy plans, current medicines and previous screening dates. Bring the original reports when available, including the result and collection date, rather than only a summary that says “normal” or “positive”.
If routine cervical sampling is planned, an appointment outside your period is usually preferable. Tell the clinic beforehand if you may be pregnant, are being treated for a vaginal infection or have recently had a cervical procedure. NHS guidance advises avoiding vaginal medicines, creams and lubricants for the two days before cervical screening because they can affect the sample. If a product is prescribed, ask the prescribing clinician how to coordinate treatment and sampling; do not stop necessary treatment on your own.
Tell the clinician about bleeding, pain or unusual discharge when booking. A screening appointment is not a substitute for assessment of an ongoing symptom. You can also explain any concerns about discomfort, privacy or the examination and ask what each proposed test is intended to answer.

What happens at the practice?
Your visit starts with a consultation. A gynecological examination and pelvic ultrasound can be performed when appropriate. The need and timing for cervical or other samples are decided individually; laboratory processing and any external imaging may require additional time or appointments.
Time and fees
When booking, ask how much time to allow and what the consultation fee covers. Confirm the scope and cost of any additional tests or imaging before they are performed. Results are not necessarily available on the day of your visit.
Reports and follow-up
Before leaving, agree how and when you will receive your reports and how the doctor will review them with you. If you are travelling, mention your departure date in advance so that any further visits can be discussed.

For international patients
Appointment requests may be sent in English. The private practice is located in Şişli, on the European side of Istanbul. If you are visiting Istanbul for a limited time, please mention your travel dates when requesting an appointment so the evaluation and any necessary follow-up can be planned realistically.

Results and follow-up
Results are interpreted together with your symptoms, examination and previous reports, rather than as an isolated checklist. A result that needs follow-up does not automatically mean cancer; the next step depends on the specific finding.
If you are travelling, discuss follow-up before you leave Istanbul. Ask which results may be available during your stay and which will need more time. Turnaround depends on the test and laboratory; do not assume that every report will be ready on the appointment day.
Before leaving the consultation, clarify how you will receive the reports, how their meaning will be explained and whether another examination may be necessary. Keep a copy for the clinician who will continue your care. If you have not received a result by the agreed time, contact the clinic rather than assuming that no news means a normal result.

Frequently asked questions
Can I request HPV testing and a Pap smear at the same visit?
In many patients, HPV testing and cervical cytology can be considered during the same assessment. Whether both are appropriate depends on age, previous results and screening history.
Is STI screening the same for everyone?
No. STI testing should be selected according to symptoms, exposure history and individual risk factors rather than using the same panel for every patient.
Is breast ultrasound automatically included?
No. Breast imaging is recommended according to age, symptoms and clinical indication. When appropriate, breast ultrasound can be coordinated with an appropriate imaging provider.
Can I arrange the appointment in English?
Yes. Dr. Alparslan Demir conducts consultations in English, including discussion of your concerns, examination findings and follow-up plan. Our assistant can also help arrange your appointment in English. Please ask in advance if you need support in another language.
