Your starting point

Your first pregnancy appointment

Not sure whether you are pregnant yet? Our pregnancy test in Istanbul guide explains when to use a urine test, when blood beta-hCG may help and what to confirm before booking. If you already have a blood result, read about beta-hCG results and follow-up.

You can request an appointment after a positive pregnancy test. Mention your estimated pregnancy week, if known, and whether you have pain, bleeding or a previous pregnancy complication. The timing and type of assessment depend on your situation.

The visit begins with your dates, current symptoms, medicines and medical and pregnancy history. Bring previous reports and your questions. Examination, ultrasound and any tests are discussed according to clinical need; findings and the next step are explained in English.

Early ultrasound has limits. What can be seen depends on gestational age and the type of examination. If a scan is performed very early, another assessment may be needed before a clear conclusion can be reached.

Ongoing antenatal care in Istanbul

Your follow-up plan takes account of your pregnancy stage, medical conditions, previous pregnancies and current findings. At each visit, the aim is to understand how you are doing, review results and agree the next assessment.

At follow-up visits

  • Discuss symptoms, wellbeing and questions.
  • Review relevant health checks and previous test or scan results.
  • Plan ultrasound, screening or additional investigations when indicated.
  • Clarify the next appointment and how to seek help between visits.

When your history needs closer review

Tell the doctor about previous pregnancy losses, preterm birth, fetal growth problems, high blood pressure, diabetes or other significant conditions. These may change your monitoring plan or the need for hospital or specialist assessment.

A fixed visit or test package is not suitable for every pregnancy.

Pregnancy ultrasound and prenatal screening

Ultrasound assessment, screening blood tests and diagnostic procedures answer different questions. The appropriate options, timing and limitations are discussed with you before a decision.

A reassuring scan or screening result does not rule out every condition. Your care plan is based on the whole clinical picture.

Continuing care started in another country

If you are moving to Istanbul or spending part of your pregnancy here, bring your existing maternity records. Previous care is reviewed before deciding which assessments are needed next; a change of country does not automatically mean every test must be repeated.

  • Estimated due date and the scan report used to establish it.
  • Ultrasound, prenatal screening and laboratory reports, with dates and reference ranges.
  • Blood group results, current medicines and information about previous pregnancy complications.
  • Relevant letters from your current obstetrician or maternity team.

Mention how long you expect to stay and where you plan to continue care or give birth. At the visit, discuss which records you will need for the next clinician and how pending results will be reviewed.

Practical questions before you book

Can I have the consultation in English?

Yes. Dr. Alparslan Demir conducts consultations in English, and appointment arrangements can also be discussed in English. If you need another language, ask about available support before booking.

Does the consultation include an ultrasound?

During pregnancy, confirm which consultation and ultrasound assessment are planned. Detailed fetal anatomy assessment, screening tests, laboratory work and hospital care are considered according to clinical need; one consultation does not replace an ongoing pregnancy follow-up plan.

What does the pregnancy consultation fee cover?

Before booking, ask which consultation and ultrasound assessment the quoted fee covers. Confirm whether NIPT, detailed anatomy ultrasound, laboratory tests and hospital birth care have separate charges. The investigations you need depend on your pregnancy stage and individual assessment; one fixed test package is not appropriate for every pregnancy.

Can my partner come with me?

If you would like your partner or another support person to attend, mention this when booking so the arrangements can be confirmed. Your preferences and privacy are discussed before examination.

Can I book one visit while I am visiting Istanbul?

You can request an individual pregnancy consultation. Mention your travel dates and bring your records. Depending on the findings, tests, repeat assessment or hospital care may be needed beyond that visit.

How will I receive reports and results?

Before leaving, agree how and when results will be shared and reviewed. Consultation findings can be discussed in English. If you need a written report in a specific language, confirm availability before the appointment; laboratory report formats can vary.

Where will delivery take place?

Antenatal consultations take place at the Şişli private practice. Birth takes place in a hospital. The hospital, doctor availability and care arrangements must be discussed during pregnancy follow-up.

If you need urgent help

Do not wait for a WhatsApp reply if you have severe abdominal pain, heavy bleeding, fainting or feel acutely unwell. Seek urgent hospital assessment; call 112 in a medical emergency in Türkiye. This practice is not a hospital emergency department.

A persistent severe headache, changes in vision, chest pain or breathing difficulty, fluid leaking from the vagina, or your baby moving less than usual also need prompt medical assessment. Do not wait until your next scheduled appointment. See the CDC guide to urgent maternal warning signs.
