Where can I discuss a pregnancy test in Istanbul?

You can request an English-language consultation with Dr. Alparslan Demir in Şişli, on Istanbul’s European side. Contact the practice to confirm the appropriate test, sample arrangements and expected result time before coming.

Already have a laboratory result? Bring the complete report, including the value, unit, reference range and sample date. Our beta-hCG results guide explains why one number does not answer every early-pregnancy question.

When should I take a pregnancy test?

For most home urine tests, the practical starting point is the first day of a missed period. If you do not know when your next period is due, test at least 21 days after the last unprotected sex. A negative result taken earlier may need to be repeated. NHS: test timing.

For home testing, follow your kit’s instructions and reading window. First-morning urine can improve detection when testing early; avoid drinking excessive water beforehand. Do not use the darkness of a test line to judge how a pregnancy is developing. FDA: home pregnancy tests.

If you are uncertain about your dates, tell the doctor when your last period began, your usual cycle pattern and when you tested. Symptoms such as nausea or breast tenderness alone cannot confirm pregnancy.

Urine pregnancy test or blood beta-hCG test?

What the tests can tell you
TestWhat it measuresWhen it may help
Urine pregnancy testWhether hCG is detected above the test’s threshold.A practical first test after a missed period; instructions and timing matter.
Quantitative blood beta-hCGA numerical hCG concentration in a blood sample. When the clinician needs a measured level or an agreed series of results.
Ultrasound assessmentImages rather than an hCG measurement.Assessment of pregnancy location and development at an appropriate stage.

Blood testing can detect lower hCG concentrations than a urine test. It is not automatically necessary after every clearly positive home test. Neither a urine result nor one blood value confirms that the pregnancy is inside the uterus or progressing normally. MedlinePlus: pregnancy tests; RCOG: early-pregnancy assessment.

What happens after the result?

Positive or uncertain result

Arrange a review of your dates, symptoms and relevant history. If the timing is too early for a clear assessment, the doctor may plan another test or scan. Read about your first pregnancy appointment.

Negative result with a late period

An early negative test may need repeating. Persistent menstrual delay, conflicting results or new symptoms deserve clinical review. An appointment can also consider causes of a delayed period other than pregnancy.

A faint or difficult-to-read result should be checked against the kit instructions. Do not interpret a line that appears after the specified reading window; use a new test or seek advice if the result remains uncertain.

Pregnancy test scope and result timing

Before your visit, ask which assessment is appropriate. Laboratory testing, medical consultation, ultrasound and repeat assessment serve different purposes. The plan depends on whether you need a first test, help interpreting a result or assessment of symptoms.

Tell the team if you are leaving Istanbul soon. Confirm the sample collection location, expected processing time, how you will receive the result and who will explain it. If you need a written report in English, ask about the available format in advance.

Same-day results and weekend sampling must be confirmed for your particular appointment. See the Sunday appointment guide for consultation arrangements.

Visiting from Nişantaşı, Taksim or elsewhere in Istanbul

The practice is in Şişli (Sisli), opposite Şişli Mosque on Halaskargazi Caddesi. It is approximately a 5–10 minute walk from Şişli–Mecidiyeköy metro or Mecidiyeköy metrobus, depending on the exit and your walking pace.

If you are staying in Nişantaşı, Taksim or Beşiktaş, use the map below to plan your journey to the Şişli address. International residents and visitors can discuss both booking and the medical consultation in English.

What should I bring?

  • Previous pregnancy tests or ultrasound reports, with their dates.
  • The first day of your last period, if known.
  • Your medication list and information about fertility treatment or a recent pregnancy.
  • Your travel dates if you will need follow-up outside Istanbul.

To request a time, a brief reason for your visit is enough; you do not need to send detailed medical records simply to ask about availability.

Pregnancy test questions: timing, symptoms and certainty

How soon will a pregnancy test show positive?

Some sensitive urine tests can show a positive result before a missed period, but many pregnancies are detected from the first day the period is late. A negative result before or around that date can be too early. Follow the kit instructions and repeat after a few days if your period has not arrived.

What are the 7 signs of pregnancy test?

A pregnancy test does not have seven symptoms: it detects hCG. If you mean seven possible early signs of pregnancy, they include:

  1. A missed period.
  2. Nausea or vomiting.
  3. Tender or swollen breasts.
  4. Feeling more tired than usual.
  5. Needing to urinate more often, without pain.
  6. Constipation.
  7. Changes in taste or sensitivity to smells.

These symptoms vary and may have other causes. Having several, or none, cannot confirm or exclude pregnancy; use a properly timed pregnancy test.

How to 100% confirm you are not pregnant?

There is no symptom checklist or single early negative test that guarantees you are not pregnant. If your cycle dates are uncertain, take a urine test at least 21 days after your last unprotected sex, following the instructions. If it is negative but your period remains absent, repeat after a few days; seek medical advice after a second negative result. A clinician can decide whether blood hCG or other assessment is needed. A test cannot exclude pregnancy from sex that happened too recently.

What are 100% signs of pregnancy?

No physical symptom is a 100% certain sign of pregnancy. A missed period, nausea or breast tenderness may suggest pregnancy but cannot diagnose it. A positive hCG test usually indicates pregnancy; it does not confirm where the pregnancy is located or whether it is developing normally. Ultrasound and follow-up are used when appropriate to assess those questions.

More questions about testing and appointments

Can I have a pregnancy test consultation in English?

Yes. Dr. Alparslan Demir conducts consultations in English at the Şişli practice. Ask the team to confirm sample collection arrangements and how the result will be reviewed when booking.

What should I clarify before a pregnancy test in Istanbul?

Ask which test is appropriate and how sample collection and result review will be arranged. Whether consultation, ultrasound or repeat testing is needed depends on the clinical situation.

Can I get a same-day pregnancy test result?

Ask the practice before travelling. Appointment availability, sample collection cut-off times and laboratory processing determine whether a result can be available that day. A same-day consultation does not guarantee a same-day laboratory result.

Do I need to fast before a beta-hCG blood test?

Fasting is not normally needed for a pregnancy test alone. If other blood tests are planned at the same visit, follow the specific preparation instructions provided.

Is a pregnancy test the same as NIPT?

No. A pregnancy test checks for hCG to help establish whether you are pregnant. NIPT is a different blood screening test used later in an established pregnancy to assess the chance of certain chromosomal conditions.

Can I ask about a Sunday appointment?

Sunday consultations may be available by prior arrangement. Ask separately whether sample collection and laboratory processing are available on your requested date; consultation availability alone does not confirm testing availability.
